What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is one of the world's leading non-invasive fat reduction treatment. It eliminates fat cells by freezing them, especially those in stubborn, hard-to-remove areas. The treatment is FDA approved, safe, and has minimal downtime. With over 7 million treatments performed globally, CoolSculpting is one of the most popular methods to help people lose stubborn fat and contour their body into its optimal shape.
How does it work?
Fat cells are able to be frozen away at higher temperatures than that of other body cells. This means that CoolSculpting can safely target and freeze fat cells without the risk of damaging or affecting the surrounding skin and muscle cells. Via a handpiece placed upon the target area, the CoolSculpting machine will apply controlled levels of cooling to crystallise fat cells. These crystallised cells will then gradually die off, allowing the remaining fat cells to condense and collapse onto each other, thus reducing the overall layer of fat on the body.
Coolsculpting vs Liposuction
Unlike Coolsculpting, Liposuction is an invasive procedure that requires surgery and general anaesthesia. Liposuction utilises large tubes to drain fat from target areas of the body, providing immediate results. The downside to this is of course increased price and weeks of downtime. Additionally we always recommend that patients interested in liposuction find a well-trained, experienced liposuction physician to minimise the risks associated with the treatment. In contrast, Coolsculpting is non-invasive, doesn't require surgery and has minimal downtime.
Coolsculpting vs Diet & Exercise
As with all treatments, CoolSculpting is not recommended to be a replacement for a healthy lifestyle involving a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. Instead, similar to a protein shake, we recommend it be used as a supplement to aid you achieving your fat loss goals. The key difference is that diet and exercise are capable of reducing the appearance of fat cells, but does not permanently remove them. CoolSculpting on the other hand is able to freeze and eliminate fat cells for good, especially stubborn areas which are hard to remove from diet and exercise alone.
What does it feel like?
During your treatment, the handpiece will use a vacuum to draw the fatty tissue into the applicator cup. This will result in a pulling or tugging sensation. When the freezing process is underway, you will also feel an intense cold sensation, which will gradually go away once the area goes numb. Post-treatment a massage is given to break up the fat cells in the treatment area. Depending on the person, the massage could potentially be slightly uncomfortable.
Is there any downtime?
As CoolSculpting is non-surgical there is little to no downtime post-treatment. Previous patients have typically resume their daily routine such as work after leaving the clinic. This is also dependent on the treatment areas and individual responses to the treatment.
Are there any side effects?
Minor side effects may be experienced after the treatment process. Immediate effects may include redness/firmness of the treatment area, slight bruising and a tingling or stinging sensation. One to two weeks following the treatment, redness, bruising or swelling may persist in addition to itchy or sensitive skin. As always these side effects vary from person to person and it is important you communicate with your treatment provider if side effects persist.
How long does it take to see results?
CoolSculpting has a 95% satisfaction rate, with results seen from as little as 3 weeks, with optimal results 1-3 months post-treatment. This is because with time, the frozen fat cells will have a chance to eliminate themselves from the body, allowing the layer of fat to gradually reduce in size. This fat reduction process can continue even up to 6 months post-treatment.
How much fat can I expect to lose from this treatment?
On average, patients can expect to see a 20-25% reduction in fat thickness of the target area.
What areas can it treat?
CoolSculpting is especially designed to target those stubborn, hard to remove fat areas. This includes: stomach & abdomen, thighs, arms, love handles & flanks, back bulge & bra area, buttocks, double chin and male chest.
