Is Ultherapy Prime better than Ultherapy?

Prime is the newer machine, but it is not a different treatment. It has clearer imaging, faster processing and an updated handpiece and screen. The ultrasound technology and treatment depths are the same. Merz says Prime is faster while offering the same lifting results as the established Ultherapy system.

Does Ultherapy Prime give better lifting results?

Not just because it is Prime. The clearer image is helpful to the practitioner, but the lift still depends on where the ultrasound lines are placed, which depths are used, the amount of energy delivered and how your tissue responds. Merz does not claim that every Prime treatment lifts more than standard Ultherapy.

What is the main difference between Ultherapy and Ultherapy Prime?

Most of the changes are to the machine itself. Prime has a larger screen, a wider and clearer ultrasound image, faster software and a redesigned handpiece and workstation. The treatment is still microfocused ultrasound delivered at the same established depths.

Is Ultherapy Prime less painful?

It may feel easier because the appointment can be shorter. Prime does not remove the usual Ultherapy sensation, and Merz does not promise a pain-free treatment. Comfort varies with the area, settings, treatment plan and your own sensitivity.

Is standard Ultherapy still effective?

Yes. Standard Ultherapy uses the microfocused ultrasound technology and real-time DeepSEE imaging on which the treatment's clinical record was built. Prime is an updated way of delivering the same Ultherapy treatment; it has not made authentic standard Ultherapy obsolete.

Do both versions use real-time ultrasound imaging?

Yes. This is an important point because some advertising makes real-time imaging sound new. Standard Ultherapy already allows practitioners to see the tissue they are treating. Prime makes that image larger, clearer and faster to refresh.

Do both versions treat the same depths?

Yes. Both use transducers for established treatment depths including 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm. Prime can show tissue on screen to a greater depth, but that does not mean it treats deeper. Imaging depth and treatment depth are different measurements.

Should I pay more for Ultherapy Prime?

We would not pay a large premium for the Prime name alone. If the clinic, practitioner, treatment plan and price were otherwise equal, the faster Prime experience would be a reasonable bonus. In practice, those factors are rarely equal, so compare the full treatment rather than the machine model.

What should I ask before booking Ultherapy?

Ask whether the machine and transducers are authentic, who will perform the treatment, how they will map your face, which areas and depths are included, how many lines are planned and what result is realistic for you. These answers tell you more than whether the machine says Prime.

Both systems use microfocused ultrasound at 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm treatment depths. Both have real-time ultrasound imaging. Prime gives the practitioner a clearer, wider image and a faster console, which can make the appointment more efficient.

Before You Book

Would we choose a clinic just because it has Prime?

No. If two clinics had equally experienced practitioners, equally thoughtful treatment plans and the same price, the faster Prime system would be a nice extra. Real clinics are rarely identical, though. We would choose the better consultation and treatment plan over the newer console.
