Prevent · Correct · Maintain — the earlier you start, the more you preserve
Wrinkles develop as collagen and elastin naturally decline with age, accelerated by UV exposure and lifestyle. Non-invasive treatments can slow that process, correct existing damage, and maintain results over time — but starting early makes the difference.

What Causes Wrinkles & Fine Lines
Wrinkles are a normal part of ageing, but the pattern and depth of lines can vary depending on multiple factors. Understanding which are most relevant for you helps guide the right treatment approach and set realistic expectations.
Fine lines are the first visible sign of ageing — shallow creases in the upper layers of the skin around the eyes, mouth, and forehead. They are not always permanent at this stage, because they are driven by surface-level changes in hydration and skin quality. Furrows are the deeper lines that follow. Dynamic furrows appear with facial movement; static furrows are present at rest. All dynamic wrinkles will eventually become static without intervention — which is why early treatment changes the long-term outcome.
Collagen loss is cumulative and accelerates over time. Fine lines that respond well to surface treatments today may deepen into structural wrinkles that require more intensive intervention later. Modern treatments do not erase ageing — they stimulate the body's own repair mechanisms, triggering collagen and elastin production, tightening existing fibres, and restoring volume where it has been lost. The goal is natural-looking improvement, not a frozen or overtreated appearance.
Muscle Movement & Expression
Repeated facial movement contributes to dynamic lines that are more visible with expression — around the eyes, forehead, and mouth. Over time these can become visible at rest as the skin loses its ability to spring back.
Treatments
Collagen & Elastin Decline
Collagen and elastin decrease naturally with age and are accelerated by UV exposure. As the skin's structural support weakens, fine lines deepen into wrinkles and the skin loses firmness and bounce.

Skin Hydration & Barrier Function
Dryness and changes in barrier function make fine lines look more prominent, particularly around the eyes and mouth. Restoring hydration at the dermal level — not just the surface — can significantly soften their appearance.
Treatments
Fat, Bone & Muscle Volume Loss
Age-related loss of facial fat, bone density, and muscle volume alter contour and tension across the skin. This changes how folds and lines sit — often most visible along the cheeks, jawline, and temples.
Sun Exposure & Lifestyle
UV exposure accounts for up to 80% of visible facial ageing. Smoking, poor sleep, stress, and diet compound the effect — accelerating collagen breakdown faster than the body can rebuild it.
Genetics & Skin Type
If your parents and grandparents aged well, you may have inherited a more wrinkle-resistant skin composition. Fitzpatrick skin type also plays a role — those with more melanin (types IV–VI) have greater natural UV protection and typically develop fewer sun-induced wrinkles. Thinner, fairer skin tends to show lines earlier and in different patterns.
Treating Wrinkles at Every Depth
Anti-wrinkle injections are one tool — effective for preventing dynamic lines from deepening, but they do not address collagen loss, skin laxity, or structural volume. At 99 Medispa, we offer a range of treatments that work at every depth of the skin, from intradermal hydration through to deep collagen remodelling. Most clients benefit from combining more than one approach.
Injectable Skin Boosters
Intradermal injectables
Intradermal — hydration, repair & collagen stimulation
Due to TGA advertising guidelines, we are unable to name the specific skin boosters we use by brand. What we can tell you is that our injectable boosters work at the dermal level — restoring deep hydration, repairing damaged skin cells, stimulating collagen production, and plumping fine lines from within. Benefits include improved skin texture and tone, restored elasticity, and a visible softening of fine lines and dehydration lines that topical skincare simply cannot reach. The right booster depends on your skin concern, age, and existing condition. Come in for a complimentary consultation and our practitioners will assess your skin and recommend the most suitable option.
Monopolar radiofrequency
Deep dermis — tightening
Radiofrequency energy heats deep collagen fibres, causing them to contract and tighten immediately while stimulating new collagen over months. Best for overall skin laxity, jawline definition, and smoothing moderate wrinkles.
Fractional RF resurfacing
Dermis — collagen remodelling
EndyMed uses fractional radiofrequency to create thousands of controlled micro-injury columns deep in the dermis while leaving surrounding tissue intact. This selectively removes aged and sun-damaged tissue and triggers the growth of fresh, collagen-rich skin in its place. Best for resurfacing texture, softening static lines, and firming crepey skin.
Er:YAG + Nd:YAG + CO2 laser
Epidermis to dermis — texture & resurfacing
Fotona combines fractionated and non-fractionated laser modes across multiple wavelengths. The fractionated component (Er:YAG) creates precise columns of heat deep in the dermis — removing sun-damaged tissue and stimulating fresh collagen growth while surrounding skin stays intact. The non-fractionated mode smooths the surface, removing superficial imperfections. CO2 resurfacing adds the deepest level of ablation for significant static lines and heavily sun-damaged skin.
Anti-Wrinkle Injection
Neurotoxin injection
Facial muscles — wrinkle prevention
Wrinkles caused by muscle movement — forehead lines, frown lines, and crow's feet — are called dynamic wrinkles. Anti-wrinkle injections work by inhibiting the nerve impulses that trigger muscle contraction, preventing the crease from forming and deepening over time. Left untreated, all dynamic wrinkles eventually become static (present at rest). They are ineffective for static wrinkles unrelated to muscle movement; those require energy-based treatments or injectables.
